More than 1200 visitors attended an Astronomy Festival in MelatPark, Rasht, Iran to celebrate Global Astronomy Month
Thaqib Astronomical Association hosted an Astronomy Festival for the general public between the 29th and 30th of April 2015. Many organizations were represented including Rasht Islamic City Council, Rasht Municipality, Rasht Athletic Culture Organization, Astronomers Without Borders and UNAWE. A large number of amateur astronomers also actively participated in the Festival.
UNAWE Iran hosted several activities: observations using telescopes, building water rockets with children and painting astronomical objects, among other activities. Highlights of the festival included observations of Sun spots and the night sky, an astronomical exhibition, the water rocket contest and a Space hangout.
Global Astronomy Month is organised each April by Astronomers without Borders and is the world’s largest global celebration of astronomy. The successful program of 2015 once again brought enthusiasts together worldwide to celebrate Astronomer without Borders’ motto “One People, One Sky”.
