On February 6th, UNAWE Tanzania and Telescopes to Tanzania organised the Inception Meeting for the Astro-Science Ambassadors Outreach for Science Education program. The meeting brought together almost 70 educators in Usa River, Tanzania and was made possible by donations from the Telescopes to Tanzania Indiegogo campaign in 2014 and a grant from the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development.
The day-long event introduced the Astro-Science Ambassadors Outreach for Science Education program initiated by Telescopes to Tanzania. Participants included teachers, school heads, District Education officers from the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, and the Director of the Tanzania center of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
The Science Ambassador program was established in June 2014 following a training event led by UNAWE Tanzania and Telescopes to Tanzania trainers. These trained ambassador-educators will help secondary school teachers in the region with hands-on, enquiry-based models for their science and math classes. The models are designed to meet the requirements outlined in the government mandated curriculum.
To continue their work training science ambassadors in Tanzania, support their current campaign on the physics and astronomy crowdfunding platform Fiat Physica. After the 8th of March you can visit the Telescopes to Tanzania webpage to contribute via PayPal.
