On 7-11 October 2013 the EU Universe Awareness International Workshop 2013 will take place at the unique centre for astronomy education and outreach, and home of the world's first UNAWE playroom, Haus der Astronomie (House of Astronomy) in Heidelberg, Germany. The event will bring together educators, teachers, astronomers, active members of the UNAWE network and experts, to share ideas, techniques and resources that have been developed to educate and inspire young children with astronomy.
The workshop will focus heavily on consolidating all existing UNAWE astronomy education and communication resources. Discussions will also take place, about the role of astronomy and space science in early childhood development and curricula development, followed by an evaluation of the long-term effectiveness of inspirational and motivational astronomy activities on very young children.
The event entails a number of talks and discussions, with an educational resources fair held on the Monday afternoon. During the fair, the best resource will be selected by participants, the winner of which will be awarded with an Explore Scientific AR102 UNAWE Edition Telescope, kindly provided by Explore Scientific.
