Do you want to send your name to the stars? We're not talking about a little patch of pavement on Hollywood Boulevard here; the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency is offering you the opportunity to send your name, along with a personal message, into Space! In 2013 the space probe, Hayabusa 2, will begin its long journey to an asteroid named 1999 JU3, and your message could travel with it!
The competition named “Let's meet with Le Petit Prince Million Campaign 2” (http://www.jaxa.jp/press/2013/03/20130329_hayabusa2_e.html) will select a number of names, messages and illustrations which will be recorded onto memory chips and loaded onto Hayabusa 2. With your message attached, the probe will reach its target asteroid in June 2018. For one and a half years it will stay there, conducting investigations that hope to reveal unknown details about the formation and evolution of our solar system, and even the origins of life!
The following themes have been suggested for message and illustration submissions:
- Thoughts and dreams for the future
- Hopes and expectations for recovery from natural disasters
- Other free themes
The competition is open from 10 April 2013 to 16 July 2013 and anyone can apply, individually or in groups. Learn more about how to take part or apply here.
