How do you get children excited about science and technology in an age when the world is so full of distractions fighting for their attention? UNAWE uses fun, interactive activities about the most inspiring subject: Astronomy. Hackidemia is an organisation that uses a similar formula — a playful, hands-on approach to learning about science and technology, that teaches kids to be creators, not consumers.
With this recipe Hackidemia shows children the importance of STEM subjects — science, technology, engineering and mathematics . The organisation runs portable technology workshops using a mobile invention lab. Children attending the workshops they are introduced to the newest technologies and encouraged to explore them on their own. This offers an opportunity for the kids to use their own creativity to solve problems and teach themselves new things. The sessions cover cutting-edge subjects including programming, micro-electronics and robotics. The end result is to not only create a generation of independent researchers, but to change them from technology consumers to technology makers.
Hackidemia welcomes children from all backgrounds, including science's minority groups: girls and kids with disabilities. So far, the portable workshop has travelled to Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Germany, France and Romania.
