UNAWE collaborator, the European Southern Observatory (ESO), is inviting you to join them in celebrating their 50th anniversary with a free, live event on the internet.
The broadcast will run from 11:00 to 17:00 CEST tomorrow. The event will kick off with a live feed from ESO's leading observatory, the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The rest of the day will offer a number of exciting talks from astronomers at ESO's headquarters. You are invited to ask questions during the feed via Facebook, Twitter or by sending an email to information@eso.org. A full timetable can be found on ESO's website.
Over the last 50 years ESO has grown into the world's leading ground-based observatory. ESO's flagship telescope, the VLT, is the most advanced visible-light telescope in the world today. In anticipation of the live broadcast ESO ran a competition challenging their Twitter followers to 'Choose What the VLT Observes'. The winner of the contest picked the Thor's Helmet Nebula, so tomorrow for the first time in ESO's history the VLT will be pointed towards this striking nebula.
