Universe Awareness Featured in GOOD Magazine
5 December 2014

GOOD Magazine is part of an initiative that aims to improve the world we live in with large ideas and global movements. By thinking big, GOOD challenges the world’s large-scale problems like pollution, poverty and global warming. GOOD Magazine provides a stage for individuals and non-profit organisations that aim for the same goals. Last month Universe Awareness was featured in the magazine.

Astronomy may be the science of everything beyond our tiny planet, still it is in a way the most global of all sciences. Every earthling lives under the same sky and from the perspective of space, we see one planet, made up by all the world’s countries, peoples and cultures. Together, we can tackle the most challenging global issues. And by thinking big, believing in large-scale ideas and acting as one species, we can overcome them. GOOD Magazine recognises astronomy’s potential to promote this by dedicating two articles about it.

Universe Awareness is the subject of an article called ‘The Organization Creating Starry-Eyed Future Scientists’. UNAWE’s founder and Leiden University’s Professor in Astronomy George Miley explains the rationale behind the project and how UNAWE is having an impact in the world.

Another article features Neil deGrasse Tyson. This famous public astronomer pushed its stardom to great heights by presenting a remake of late Carl Sagan’s legendary TV series Cosmos, called Cosmos: a SpaceTime Odyssey. A funny satiric video clip explains the secret origin of this American phenomenon.
