Telescopes to Tanzania
8 May 2014

When in 2010 Americans Chuck and Sue Ruehle brought a few telescopes with them to rural Tanzania and visited some schools, they realised how much joy and wonder astronomy can bring. After that experience, they started setting up a project called Telescopes to Tanzania, which made it to the Wish List of the Office of Astronomy for Development. Together with UNAWE Tanzania, this project plans to build a science centre, providing astronomy tools – like telescopes – to Tanzanian schools. This will enable students to experience science with hands-on activities, instead of just learning scientific theory from the classroom.

However, to make this first hands-on science centre in Tanzania possible, your help is needed. To stay on schedule, the project needs 10,000 euros by 1 June. Kai Staats contributed by creating an introductory video about Telescopes to Tanzania, to give you an insight into their work. If you want to see their science centre being built, you can donate money here. Any amount is more than welcome!
